Irish Band

Convinced that their audience-participation act equates to "interactive entertainment", today The Dregs officially announced, their intentions to develop Irish Band, a console video game featuring the sound and likeness of all six members. The included peripherals are said to be simple 4-button controllers fashioned to resemble an accordion, a bohdrain, and a cowbell. Common guitar controllers will be compatible with the software, but this game will come packaged with an extra clip to simulate a capo and key discrepancies, spawning in-game player arguments... just like the real band.

"This was the next logical step." says front-man Tim Wick. "Hell, if the Beatles can do it, so can we. And half of them are DEAD!"

Initial reports say the player can choose one of four categories, ranging from sea shanties to stupid pretty songs. As the game progresses, other categories can be unlocked, such as zombies, carrots, chickens, and socks. At expert levels, the game goes into "Dreg-Along" mode.

"Dreg-Along mode is actually the easiest," says guitar player Frost, "because you only have to know the first verse of each song."

Surprisingly, the melodies are easily picked up on the custom controllers. Chad Dutton is unimpressed. "Do you have any idea how many buttons an accordion has? I wish it was as simple as four friggin' buttons! That controller is a damn joke!" Tim Wick agrees. "Actually, we're hoping to get rid of the accordion all together. In the actual band, I mean. Accordions suck." Chad frowns and clangs an oversized bell in Tim's ear.

Completely sold on the idea, vocalist Susanne Becker is already looking forward to the Wii edition, where players mimic arm movements of the undead. Angelina Lais is proud of her input on the game design as well. "I made sure there was a big hot key to pause the game when your bladder is full. And the best part is, you can pause it as many times as you want. Like every five minutes."

Rated B for Beer, Irish Band is said to be fun for all ages. That's music to Rachael Salisbury's ears, who is about to turn 42 soon.
